Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing: Improving Comprehension

The students will start reading the book Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Before reading the first chapter I will offer them different types of strategies to remember what they read.  I will introduce the concept of making a "map" of the main characters and events that occurred  in the chapter.  After the students have read the first chapter I will have the students refer to the notes they took in order for them to begin to write a summary.  From that the students answer the questions from the worksheet page provided(resources)  in which after each chapter is read they will add to the notes they took or the concept map they created. I will keep dictionaries out so if any students has a problem understanding a word they will be able to look it up.  Vocabulary and comprehension questions will be considered prior to reading a chapter.
