Task
First Task (level 1): Should the Klamath be Terminated?
In a group assigned by your teacher you will be debating whether the Klamath should be terminated from as either (1) a group representing the US government seeking to terminate the Klamath or (2) a group representing the Klamath opposed to Termination.

Second Task (level 2): Relocating the Indian to Cement Prairies
The Federal Relocation program resulted in the largest mass movement of Indians in American History. You will evaluate the reasons why Relocation was implemented and how it affected tribes and Nations through individual tribal experiences. In this task you will be asked to:

Participate in a class discussion about "Urban Indians"

Interpret a series of portraits "Concrete Indians" and their significance to Relocation.

Listen to a documentary describing the urban Indian experience, choose correct responses from a multiple choice quiz, and write a short response to questions about what you hear.

Construct a graphic representation evaluating the reasons why Relocation was implemented and how Relocation affected tribes by reading an article, watching a short video clip, using an interactive map, and employing other resources.

Third Task (level 3): What is the value of Jurisdiction to the Quinalt Nation?
In the third task, you will learn the steps a cultural group must go through in order to be recognized as a tribe by the federal government. You will state the reasons why one cultural group is successful as being recognized as a tribe, and why another may fail. You will also be able to formulate an opinion about the federal tribal recognition system. In the first part of the task you will be asked to:

recognize the 7 criteria for federal tribal recognition

discover whether a tribe met each of the criteria using internet resources

critique the criteria for federal tribal recognition

The time period known as the Termination Era included a trio of rapid assimilation programs: termination, relocation, and Public Law 280 (PL280). In your final task you will learn about PL280.
