Exploration of Native Americans

Task

20141020111736eQete.jpg

You will travel back in time with 4 other anthropologists in the class and you will pick a region in the United States to travel back in time to. The regions are: Arctic: Inuktitut (Eskimos) Indian Tribe, NW Coastal: Chinook Indian Tribe, Southwest: Navajo Indians Indian Tribe, Great Plains: Pawnee IndianTribe, Southeast Woodlands: Cherokee Indian Tribe, and Northeast Woodlands: Iroquois Indian Tribe

As anthropologist you will dig into the culture and customs of your Native American Tribe. You will journal your findings that you discover as you explore the tribe of your choice. The information will provide the framework for your newsletter and the artifact you plan to “bring” back with you! You will also take a Pre-Test and Post-Test to verify you were learning and paying attention to other groups presentations.

When you travel back to today’s time you will present a newsletter and artifact (your group made) to the class. Your newsletter will include: tribes and geographical features; food and hunting; shelter and transportation; clothing andtechnology; customs and traditions.

Your artifact must be of a great cultural/spiritual significance and you must be prepared to explain the importance of the artifact and how it relates to your tribe.

The image below is a totem pole which is a great example of an artifact you could bring back to show the class!
