The Common Core Standards are national standards by which all educators will design and plan their instruction.  The mission of the CCS is to provide a clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, which should be robust and relevant to the real world.  It is the goal that all students are either college or career ready by the time they are ready to graduate highschool.

The Common Core initiative calls for students to be exposed to multiple types of texts, with an emphasis on nonfiction.  Students are expected to be able to compare multiple texts and various media, cite evidence, collaborate with one another, and present information.

Learning is to be constructive and all learners should be actively engaged.  Knowledge is no longer simply transferred to the learner, but it is utilized to transform the learner.

Learning becomes a journey...Metacognition provides the path and opens doors.
