Each member of your group will have a specific role.  The four roles are reporter, historian, illustrator and editor.  Each role will have specific tasks to complete.  Use the Resources section below to get information online.  Other resources (books, etc.) are available in the classroom.

Reporter:

  1. Find two letters from Civil War soldiers.  Transcribe (copy) them into your journal.
  2. Write up 1/2 page summary of the Underground Railroad.
  3. Define the terms abolition, secession, confederation, and gradual manumission.
Historian:
  1. Create a time line of the Civil War.  Your time line must include 20 significant events, in proper order, with the specific dates listed.
  2. Create a chart illustrating three advantages and three disadvantages that each side had.
  3. Design a graph illustrating overall casualties (deaths and serious injuries) on both sides.  Break your data down into the following categories: killed in battle, wounded in battle, killed by disease.
Illustrator:
  1. Choose one Union and one Confederate flag.  Create 8"x10" replicas of both.
  2. Create a map of North America in the 1860's, showing the boundaries and individual states of the United States of America and the Confederate States of America.
  3. Illustrate in color a typical uniform of both a Union and a Confederate soldier.
Editor:
  1. Research and report on Robert E. Lee's reasons for turning down President Lincoln's request to lead the Union Army.
  2. Create a short biography of Generals Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee.
  3. Briefly explain the Emancipation Proclamation. What did it do?  What did it not do?
Upon arriving back in the present time, each member will need to organize his or her findings into a clear, neat and creative form that can be presented to Emit Praw to take back to 2261.  (Naturally, you will turn it in to Mr. Rainey for a grade before Emit gets to take it).
