1. First gather with your  team members. Remember that you will be graded not only on your final product, but also how well you work together and your own individual contributions and participation in classwork. You will only be allowed to work on this during class time so brainstorm a plan of action now for more efficient work later.

2. Second you and your team must come to an agreement on which element you will be highlighting.

3. Use the weblinks to gather important information about your particular element. You must clearly and cleverly present the following information about the element:

 *name
 *atomic number
 *chemical symbol
 *uses
 *where it is found
*rare or common (percentages and statistics would be appropriate here)
 *a catchy and relevant slogan

See the instructor to receive your element assignment.

3. Research your element. You may want to use the following resources:

The Dynamic Periodic Table--This online periodic table will pull up the wikipedia page for any element you click on.
Web Elements--This online periodic table will pull up a page with information, pictures, and even an audio clip with the element's pronunciation for any element you click on.
The Periodic Table of Videos--This online periodic table will pull up an informative, easy to understand, and entertaining video for any element that you click on.
PeriodicTable.com--This online periodic table will pull up a page with some information and many examples in real life of any element that you click on.

4. Create your advertisement. You can choose any ad format that you wish, as long as you can fulfill the requirements listed below. For example, you can choose to create a commercial, a radio ad, a billboard, a magazine ad, etc. The ad can be in either an electronic format or a hard copy format, as long as it can be presented to the class. The ad is required to include the following pieces of information: 1) the name and symbol of the element, 2) the atomic number of the element, 3) the atomic weight of the element, 4) common molecules the element forms, and 5) common uses of the element in the real world. Other interesting properties, uses, or pictures of the element may also be included. Be creative! Part of your grade will be based on creativity. The advertisement is meant to be persuasive as well as informative. Try to convince people that this element is worthwhile to have in the world. Tell us why the element is important.. Once you have gathered your information your team should plan out and create your multimedia commercial. The commercial for your element should be between 3 - 5 minutes long. You may create a power point presentation with voice/music components, podcast, or a short digital video for submission.

5. Present your advertisement to the class and turn it in to the teacher. You should give a short (2-3 minute) presentation that introduces your ad, shows the ad to the class, and explains why you chose the ad format that you did. Make sure your names are on the ad before you turn it in to the teacher.

6. Relax! You are finished!

Hint: You must be discerning about the information that you find on these sites. There are many, many sites on the web that offer information, but not all of them are credible or relevant. Make sure that you are reading carefully and comparing information to get an accurate overview of the characteristics of that particular element.

Keep in mind that this is a video for submission for a grade that will be viewed at school. While I LOVE humor and creativity, make sure that it is appropriate to be viewed in a classroom setting and by your peers. General rule of thumb... if you are wondering whether or not it might be appropriate - don't do it.
