Planning the Perfect Prom

Process

20150707053259GyteH.jpg

Time to get busy planning, folks!

The
first task is deciding a central theme around which the entire night will focus.  If you need help brainstorming ideas, follow the link below; but don't spend too much time on this part, as you've got lots of work to do. Once your group has decided on a theme, delegate each person a number for their job assignment.  Don't forget you can spend only ten thousand dollars, and you all must work together in ensuring you are within budget. Check in with me if you have any questions,
and have fun!

Job Numbers:

    1.)  Location and Crowns
    2.)  Catering and Advertising
    3.)  Music and Photobooth
    4.)  Seating and Decor

Job Number One: Location and Crowns

Job number one involves the very important task of determining your prom's location.  You will be in charge of reserving the hall as well as choosing the crowns.  You will need to check multiple sources to find the best price & location, and remember to keep in mind that it needs to be able to hold 300 guests.  Once you have budgeted the cost of the room you're reserving and how much the crowns are going to cost, write an algebraic expression of your new information.  Below are some links for finding local party venues and crowns.  Feel free to expand your search and include as many sites as you like.

Job Number Two: Catering and Advertising

Your task is to find a local caterer who can provide delicious food within the budget.  Remember to provide menu options for diverse dietary needs (e.g., vegan, gluten-free), which adheres to the theme.  Don't forget dessert!  Like the other jobs, you are free to use the links below, or any resources of your choosing.  The second duty of this planner is creating the event's advertisement.  Flyers, posters, social media announcements, p.a. announcements -- any sort of ad campaign that will get the word out there and sell tickets.  Below are some links for catering, but don't limit yourself to those three.  Does a classmate's family own a restaurant?  What's your favorite place to dine locally?  Once you have determined who will cater the event, create an algebraic expression of your new information.

Job Number Three: Music and Photobooth

Planner number three has the all-important role of providing music as well as photobooth.  You will be in charge of finding a band, DJ or any other form of music/entertainment/sword swallower/balloon animal artist at prom.  They will need to keep within the budget and make sure that the entertainment can be there all night long.  The second job this person will have is finding a photobooth rental.  Keep in mind your theme -- if it's a pirate prom, you'll need pirate props in the booth, aye matey?  Remember to keep track of all your costs, and form an algebraic expression with your new information.

Job Number Four: Tables/Seating and Decor

Job number four involves decorations and seating.  Your task is finding affordable yet chic tables and chairs for 300 guests.  Don't be afraid to get creative with decor, and stick with the theme.  Track the costs and don't forget, once you have tables, you will require centerpieces.  You may choose to decorate tables with flower arrangements, treasure chests, plastic brains, candles, or whatever you wish, but the tables must have some sort of centerpiece.  Once you've gathered and budgeted your portion of the project, please write an algebraic expression with your new information.

You're almost ready for judging!

Once everyone has created their own portions of the budget and written their algebraic equations, you must reconvene and talk finances and ideas.  Decide as a team what works/doesn't work, and if you need to, use trial & error in searching more affordable options.  Once everything is agreed upon,  print out your final budget sheet and bring it to me.  List every item you will buy/rent, their prices, and how many you plan to buy and from where.  Include on the printout your group's final algebraic expression of all items listed, complete with polynomials and coefficients, and be certain everything is less than or equal to $10,000.  Make sure everything you need for prom is listed before generating your final expression.  State how much you've spent and how much you have left over.  REMEMBER: YOU MUST STAY WITHIN THE ALLOTTED TEN THOUSAND BUCKS!
