Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration

To complete your WebQuest you are required to alone. You will explore Web Pages that contain information regarding Photosynthesis and Respiration. You will become knowledgeable on these two processes.  You will then develop a brochure containing all the information you have learned.  The goal of this brochure is to enable another person who has not studied these processes to acquire a sound understanding of these 2 processes.

For your brochure, you need to include the information you gathered from the questions below.  Include in you brochure such items as a table to compare the two processes as well as illustrations describing these processes. It is recommended that your brochure contain the following topics: Photosynthesis, Respiration, Similarities, Differences, and Equations.

Use the Internet information linked on the Resource page to answer the following questions.  Each team member is responsible for answering 7 questions each.  

1.  In what organelle does the process of Photosynthesis occur?

2.  In what organelle does the process of Respiration occur?

3.  In what type of cells do the above processes take place?  Plant, Animal, Both, Neither?

4.  How do plants and animals obtain energy?

5.  Why are animal cells not capable of carrying out Photosynthesis?

6.  Photosynthesis and Respiration can be summarized into equations.  Write the equations and how do they relate to one another.

7.  What major and accessory pigments are necessary for Photosynthesis to be carried out?  Give a brief description of each.

8.  Analyze why leaves change color in autumn.

9.  Identify the parts of the plant involved in Photosynthesis.

10.  Distinguish between the light and dark reactions of Photosynthesis.

11. Explain what ATP is, how it is formed, and what is its role in Photosynthesis and Respiration.

12.  How are glycolysis and the citric acid cycle used in Respiration?  Are they used equally in anaerobic and aerobic respiration?  Why or why not?

13.  What are the 2 main types of anaerobic respiration?

14.  Which of the 5 kingdoms contain organisms that carry out Photosynthesis and Respiration?  Be specific to each of the processes.
