First: We will review what Cause and Effect is. Turn to a partner and discuss what you remember from yesterday's lesson.

  • Refresh your memory by clicking on the first link below titled "Warm-up activity"
  • When you're finished, select the link below that titled "Cause and Effect Examples."
  • Practice with a matching game! Drag the effect to match it's cause. Click the link below titled "Matching Activity."

Second: Watch the video "If You Give a Moose a Muffin" and listen to the reading and follow along.

  • Before watching the video, think to yourself what the book might be about.
  • Click on the link to watch the video.
  • While you're listening and following along, make predictions about what might happen next.

Third: Identify cause and effect by recalling the story If You Give a Moose a Muffin

  • Think about how we use cause and effect to help us understanding what we are reading: as you read, ask yourself, "What happend?" and "Why?" The answer to "What Happened?" tells you the effect. The answer to "Why?" is the cause.
  • Click on the link below titled "Story Recall: Cause and Effect" and complete the activity by retelling the story in the correct sequence, placing the correct story event in cause and the correct story event in effect.

Fourth: With a partner, test your knowledge about what we've learned.

  • Use the link below, titled "Test your knowledge"

Fifth: Create your own cause and effect comic book story!

  • You will need to include at least 4 cause and at least 4 effect examples in your story
  • You will need to clearly state what a cause is and what an effect is.
  • You will need to use complete sentences.
  • You will need to sequence the events in your story correctly.
  • Be creative!
  • Have fun!

Go to the "Evaluation" page and click the link to the "Comic Creator" to create your story. Review the rubric!
