Introduction
This is to be completed PRIOR to the start of this unit. 
  1. With the support of the Language Arts Instructor, students read a novel on the Holocaust, completed a book discussion,  and submitted a  Globster project. (Sample of projects are seen on the Introduction Page.)
  2. Read Chapter 16  in your textbook.
  3. Complete the vocabulary worksheet. 
Day 1: Hitler's Rise to Power
  1. Learn about how the Great Depression played a role in Hitler's rise to power. 
  2. Discuss the Nazi Political Party and their agenda.
  3. Compare and Contrast today's economy with Germany's 1930 economy. 
Day 2: The Diary of a Nazi
  1. Today's Guest Speaker will share excerpts from her grandfather's diary;  Von Kampen was a dedicated member of the Nazi Party.
  2. Learn about Nazi propaganda and anti-semitism. 
  3. Find examples of modern day propaganda and discuss its effectiveness.
Day 3: Surviving the Nightmare
  1. Guest Speaker, Bernard Sheer, will share his Holocaust survival story. 
  2. Learn about the treatment of the Jewish people before, during, and after World War II. 
  3. Create a survival plan. 
Day 4: Welcome to Auschwitz
  1. Trace the path of the Jewish people from the Ghettos to the Death Camps.
  2. Discover the atrocities that occurred inside these camps.
  3. Write a persuasive essay sharing your viewpoint of the Holocaust. 
Day 5: Approaching the End
  1. Discover how the Holocaust ended. 
  2. Review a timeline of major events that occurred. 
  3. Create a PowerPoint summarizing the Holocaust.
