Introduction
This is to be completed PRIOR to the start of this unit.
- With the support of the Language Arts Instructor, students read a novel on the Holocaust, completed a book discussion, and submitted a Globster project. (Sample of projects are seen on the Introduction Page.)
- Read Chapter 16 in your textbook.
- Complete the vocabulary worksheet.
- Learn about how the Great Depression played a role in Hitler's rise to power.
- Discuss the Nazi Political Party and their agenda.
- Compare and Contrast today's economy with Germany's 1930 economy.
Day 2: The Diary of a Nazi
- Today's Guest Speaker will share excerpts from her grandfather's diary; Von Kampen was a dedicated member of the Nazi Party.
- Learn about Nazi propaganda and anti-semitism.
- Find examples of modern day propaganda and discuss its effectiveness.
Day 3: Surviving the Nightmare
- Guest Speaker, Bernard Sheer, will share his Holocaust survival story.
- Learn about the treatment of the Jewish people before, during, and after World War II.
- Create a survival plan.
Day 4: Welcome to Auschwitz
- Trace the path of the Jewish people from the Ghettos to the Death Camps.
- Discover the atrocities that occurred inside these camps.
- Write a persuasive essay sharing your viewpoint of the Holocaust.
Day 5: Approaching the End
- Discover how the Holocaust ended.
- Review a timeline of major events that occurred.
- Create a PowerPoint summarizing the Holocaust.
