Get in groups of 4 or 5. Once you are in a group, you can follow the next five steps (notice that the first letters-capitalized- form the word paint in order to help you remember faster what you have to do :)

1. Pick one of the famous paintings from the useful links; try to choose the one that you and the other members of your group prefer and wish to find additional information about -your project will become a lot more enjoyable! ;

2. Add the painter's biography;

3. Identify and explain the social and political setting surrounding the creation of the painting (use books, Internet websites, etc.);

4. Name and explain the symbols used in the painting (that includes the choice of colors, objects, etc.);

5. Try to provide a plausible explanation regarding its popularity and famousness.

Finally, put your findings in a Power Point (10 to 12pages) and present it to the class. Your Power Point must include, as a conclusion, an artwork similar to the one you chose; the criteria on which you based the level of comparability must be explained and justified.

Remarks:

- If the artworks provided in the introduction do not arouse your interest and motivation, you can select another painting and make it approved by your instructor. Check the following link for a longer list of famous paintings.

- You will win bonus marks if you can find anecdotes and fun facts related with your work of art.

Good luck!
