Lesson Title:  Personal Mandala (2 weeks)


 Essential Question(s):

 When looking at your Mandala, what will people be able to infer about your inner and outer being? 

 NewTEKS alignment:

 Student Learning Objectives/Goals:

1.    The Mandalamust represent the inner self.

2.    The background must represent the outer self.

3.    The background media will be selected to represent the students’ outside world and have definite contrast to the  Mandala.

4.    The Mandala will be composed in radial balance with varied line quality illustrating value difference using pen and ink.

5.    Complete awritten self evaluation.

6.    Add image toportfolio.

 Description of what low, medium, and high levels of student learning look like for this lesson:

 The student will:

 Creating - Design an effective compositionradial balance.

 Analyzing - Demonstrate technique in mixedmedia.

 Applying - Understand and apply the elementsof art and design.

 Evaluating - Communicate the differencebetween inner and outer self by representing outer self in the background and the inner self within the Mandala.

 Remember – Know the historical reference to Mandala, the elements and principles of art and design.
