Personal Mandala

Introduction

Mandalas are works of art that use radial symmetry.  Radial comes from the word radius which means the center of a circle or a sphere.  Symmetry as you already know is the same or mirror image.  Radial Symmetry means that the parts are arrange around a central point.  An example would be the sun, the rays are arranged around a central point.  With radial symmetry you have the same shapes, color, and lines arranged in a circle.  In an Islamic mandala you will see lots of beautiful fluid lines, straight lines, organic shapes, and geometric shapes.  The linework is based in Arabic calligraphy which is a fancy style of writing.
