Simple past tense vs Present perfect tense
Introduction
GRAMMATICAL TENSES
When studying language we know the terms of grammar are often associate with rules on language, however grammar is not about rules at all. Grammar is system on language that study on classes of words, structure, phrase, clause, etc. Therefore it is reasonable when we usually found formulas or rules on it. On studying grammar we will found part that called tenses. Tenses is a verb-based method used to indicate the time, and sometimes the continuation or completeness, of an action or state in relation to the time of speaking. Tenses consist on Time and Aspect.
On this occasions we will take two form of tenses that commonly misunderstood, Simple past tense and Present perfect tense.
- SIMPLE PAST TENSE : tells us that an action happened at a certain time in the past, and is not continuing anymore. It doesn't tell us anything about when an action happened, so more information needs to be given with this verb form, such as when the action took place
- PRESENT PERFECT TENSE : tells us that an action started in the past and it is still happening now, or it is something that happens regularly. We may need more information to tell us how long it has been going on. It may also tell us that the time period it started in is still going on
