Diabetes Mellitus according to Wikipedia is a group of metabolic diseases in which a person has high blood sugar, either because the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or because cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced. There are three main types of diabetes. Type I diabetes, usually diagnosed in children and adolescents,occurs when the pancreas is unable to produce insulin. Type II diabetes, occurs when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body does not effectively use the insulin that is produced. A third type of diabetes, gestational diabetes, is a temporary condition that occurs during pregnancy.

For the purpose of this WebQuest you will be focusing your attention on the most common form of Diabetes, Type II. Also referred to adult onset diabetes Type II diabetes is initially managed by increasing exercise and nutrition and medication. Individuals who are overweight and living a sedentary lifestyle are more susceptible to adult onset diabetes.  

This WebQuest will allow you to research and learn about diabetes and what role you can play in caring for these patients. Collaboration is a key element in the WebQuest process.
