How were the Eastern Woodland Indians named? They were true believers of being one with their surroundings; these people grew up and raised their children east of the Mississippi and the Great Plains. They were surrounded by forest which helped them to survive the differing weather that moved from season to season. The Eastern Woodland Indians used the natural resources around them to survive and prosper. Within this culture there were many different tribes, two of the main tribes were the Iroquois and the Cherokee.
