Blood Clots After Surgery

Evaluation

It is important to note that there are several preventive measures that could be taken to ensure proper care is being provided to patients – especially those following surgery. What the writer has learned about this case study is that the patient is at the mercy of the health care professionals. All health care professionals should work together and have an in-service training regarding the treatment for the patient from admission until discharge. In this case anticoagulation medication should be a protocol, and all those working closely with the patient should pay closer attention to what needs to be ordered to ensure a healthy and safe recovery for the patient. If protocol in not followed, it could potentially have dramatic consequences for the patient’s health and safety. Also, the patient should be included in the plan of care, and should be given information about what medications will be given aside from the ones they take at home. Patients should be given information about the action, side, and adverse effects of the medications and perform the teach-back method with them to ensure understanding.
