Reliability and Validity

Rubrics are a detailed scale indicating the assignment directives, how students will meet them, along with understanding through directions, how scoring with grades will be delivered(Billings & Halstead, 2012).  The advantage of both creating and following a rubric in detail is clear assignment description into categories of importance, each gaining a weigh of measurementand to prove reliability and validity of the evaluation/ score.  Meaning, the validity is measured by the objectives matching the assignment reading and other forms of learning.  Further, the instructors can ensure validityby delivering forms of evaluation or testing that are congruent with the materials learned.  For this Community Focused course, the student will construct a case study plan of care that is invalid alignment of the experience gained in the community field practicum.  Upon completion of the case study, the nurse educator will utilize scoring through the reliability of the established rubric, measuring completion and mastering of the four component.

Moreover, the results of case study measured by correctness and offered a weighed result as a score or percentage that is reliable and fair.  The most common indicator of reliability in a rubric is to give a weight or percentage of correctness for following the structure. Development of a scoring rubric provides an assessment tool that uses clearly defined criteria for the assignment and gauges student achievement.
