Welcome: Resident Advisor Induction Preparation
Description: /ɪnˈdʌk·ʃən/ the act or process of introducing someone formally or with a special ceremony to an organization or group. Irvine Hall's Resident Advisors are on the final quest to become SAGEs (Skilled Advisors Guiding Empowerment). Their final quest, before they are robed, is to unlock the power of integrated knowledge. Success comes to Resident Advisors who know themselves - their strengths, values and purpose - but who also know their calling - their institution's history, memory and mission. On this quest, resident advisors will connect past, present and future knowledge to discover and unlock one empowerment initiative that they will undertake to impact and transform the wider UWI, Mona campus in their roles as SAGEs.

  • A Place of Light, Liberty and Learning
Description: “The founding of the University, like the founding of the West Indian nations, was a product of the positive response of the West Indian people to the challenge of change and deprivation. Encouragement, advice, funding came from the colonial authorities and from Britain, but only because of the intellectual quality of the people, their character and capacity of political leadership, and these were the products of the quality of the people themselves. The sons and daughters of the West Indian people, inheritors of a tradition of greatness, will create a great university. This is our faith as we begin the story of the founding and growth of The University of the West Indies.” An excerpt from ‘The University of the West Indies: A Caribbean response to the challenge of change’ by Philip Sherlock & Rex Nettleford

Description: The Resident Assistant (RA) position is often noted as a premier leadership opportunity on many college campuses. While undoubtedly an important institutional position, such a role is a complex one. In this case study, Victor (Resident Director) navigates challenges, impacts and considerations that RAs Cameron and Rachel have experienced, and as the RD begins to question how RAs these student staff members might be resourced and supported as a means of responsibility and care for RAs.
