Welcome: Opinion Writing: Letter to the editor
Description: Students will learn about early female journalist Elizabeth Cochrane Seaman, more commonly known under her pen name Nellie Bly. Her work included breaking a story regarding the conditions of mental hospitals, exposing abuses inflicted on patients and revealing discrepancies over who was being admitted. Students will use various forms of media and writings to learn about the conditions and treatment of those living in asylums and about Nelly Bly before writing their own Letter to the Editor.
