Welcome: A World of Wealth: Exploring Context and Cultural Details in The Great Gatsby
Description: The Great Gatsby is a wonderful novel that takes readers through the fast paced life of the rich and famous in the Roaring 1920's. F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel is filled with fascinating characters and complex relationships that engross readers. However, one thing that gets lost to 21st Century readers, are the myriad cultural references that Fitzgerald makes in order to emphasize the level of wealth and power that some of these characters have. Knowing and understanding these references gives us a better idea of what we're dealing with in the story and helps us better understand some of the motivations behind certain characters. This Webquest is designed to explore these references in detail and to supplement student's understanding of the novel. Students will have the option to either engage in a Research/Analysis Component or in a Creative Writing Component, both of which are fueled by research into the background of the novel.
