Welcome: How Do Changes Happen?
Description: In this webquest, high school students will analyze how changes occur in society. They have put in a bid to the Museum of the City of New York for creating an upcoming exhibit. They will collaborate to research and compare two events, both tragic, that spawned important legislation which created significant changes in American life. They are: The NYC Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of 1911 and the World Trade Center attack of 9/11. As a team, they will employ the roles of: Research Specialist, Presentation Writer, Presentation Coordinator, and Impact Specialist. The question of the hour is: Could anything be so devastating that it changes the way we live our lives every day? At the end of the process, an essay by each specialist will expand on the original question. Each specialist will research information about their event, and discuss plans for a stunning museum exhibit. Some links are provided as a starting point. Over a period of approximately three weeks, the students will prepare to Wow the museum board with their display and essays. Each week, there will be a draft due for editing and feedback. The final product will be due at the end of week three, and the museum board will hear presentations shortly after to decide which team is awarded the exhibition.
