Description: Some important facts about the Persians are the following: They ruled from 600 B.C to 350 B.C. Their empire stretched from Egypt to India; they built the Royal Road; they practiced tolerance; freed the Jews; divided their empire into provinces; built roads; had money system and taxes; practiced Zoroastrianism; attempted unsuccessfully to conquer Greece.The most outstanding king of the Persians was Cyrus the Great. The following text describes the first Persian King. He was considered a wise man of his Empire. He practiced tolerance. He told his soldiers not to harm the people they conquered and not to burn their temples. He also was kind to the Jews. The Chaldeans had attacked the Judah and forced the Jews to work as slaves in Babylon. He let them go back to their homes. He allowed conquered people to keep their customs. They could keep their religions and their languages.
