Title:  Exploring Brazilian Culture                                              Grade Level:  sixth grade


Content Area/Topic:  Multicultural Education


NETS for Students:      Standards I (Creativity and Innovation), 2 (Communication and Collaboration), 3 (Research and Information Fluency), 4 (Critical Thinking).


Description of Standards Applications:


                                                Brazilian culture is a culture of a very diverse nature. An ethnic and cultural mixing occurred in the colonial period between Native Americans, Portuguese and Africans formed the bulk of Brazilian culture.  This integration lesson offers students the opportunity to research about Brazilian Culture and lifestyle.  In addition, all students will use his or her creativity to accomplish their tasks as a group.  In summary, this activity is designed to help student develop group work skills while they are exploring Brazilian Culture.


Instructions:                     Students are going to be divided in small groups of three.  Each member of the group will pick a role to run the investigation.  The teacher will provide her students a website to guide the activity.  There, they will find all the information they need and a lot of resources.  On completion of the project, have students present to the class what they found out and a written paper.


Assessment:                         Teacher-developed rubric and a Written Report with their findings and a reflection.
