Let's Make a Zoo

This webquest is designed for first grade students. It is intended to be used at the end of a science unit on animals, after students have learned about various ways to describe and classify animals.

This webquest goes with VA science SOL 1.5: 

The student will investigate and understand that animals, including people, have life needs and specific physical characteristics and can be classified according to certain characteristics. Key concepts include:
      a) life needs (air, food, water, and a suitable place to live)
      b) physical characteristics (body coverings, body shape, appendages, and methods of movement)
      c) other characteristics (wild/tame, water homes/land homes)

While completing this webquest, students will learn and practice basic research skills. They will also apply the skills that they have learned during the science unit on animals by learning about and creating a zoo exhibit describing 1 specific animal.

This webquest is designed to be completed in 5 days (about 30 minutes per day). Here is a simple outline of the 5 day lesson plan:
     - Day 1: Who am I? - Students determine the identity of their mystery animal
     - Day 2: Students research their animals
     - Day 3: Students find pictures for the visual part of their zoo exhibit
     - Day 4 and 5: Students create the visual and written parts of their exhibits
