The Texas Framework for
Language Other Than English (1997) emphasized the exploration of foreign
cultures at every level of foreign language study.  According to the
framework, these explorations help to "increase students
motivation to learn the language, foster divergent thinking, and
connect language learning to other subject areas" (p. 28).

This lesson was developed for
French language learners at the high school level.  It was designed with
the aim of extending the cultural content of the Discovering French program.
