Along with this WebQuest is the lesson plan provided below. Both are used to reinforce the content in fun and abstract ways; to grab the student(s) attention.

Instructional time period
The lesson will take approximately 1-2 hour(s)/class(es) to complete
Student learning outcomes-(minimum of 3)
SIDE EFFECTS OF SEXUAL INTERCOURSE TERMS TO REMEMBER
STD’s
Sexually transmitted diseases are transmitted through a wide variety of ways including oral sex, vaginal sex, anal sex, and contact with diseased blood.
You can get an STD from a person who shows no signs or symptoms of the disease. Just because you can't see it, that doesn't mean it's not there!
Despite all the warnings about having safe sex and screening for STDs, literally millions of people in the U.S. alone get STDs they've never had before. These include Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, and HIV/AIDS.
Safe Sex
Practicing safe sex is important for healthy living. It helps to prevent or minimize the chances that you will get a potentially nasty, painful, and sometimes incurable disease.
This what this lesson will be about; the important points about the different major types of diseases you can get from unprotected sex; and what symptoms and signs to expect?
Pregnancy
Pregnancy is a common side effect of sexual intercourse. This can be prevented by practicing Safe Sex, Birth control, and Abstinence.
Lecture notes -PowerPoint Presentation
Definitions:
What is an STD? – STD stands for sexually transmitted disease. An STD is a disease you can get by having sex with someone who has one. You do not have to have sexual intercourse to get an STD, either. You can get STDs from oral sex, anal sex, or from rubbing naked against someone who is infected.
What does Safe Sex mean? – Safe sex helps to stop or reduce the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.
What does it mean to be pregnant? – Pregnancy occurs when a woman carries one or more offspring inside herself.
Abstinence from Sex – is the use of self-control to resist/refrain from sexual activity.
Birth Control – is used to help prevent pregnancy and is commonly 99% effective when used properly.
Chlamydia – is a common STD that can infect both men and women. It can cause serious, permanent damage to a woman’s reproductive system. This can make it difficult or impossible for her to get pregnant later on. Chlamydia can also cause a potentially fatal ectopic pregnancy (pregnancy that occurs outside the womb).
Gonorrhea – can infect both men and women. It can cause infections in the genitals, rectum, and throat. It is a very common infection, especially among young people ages 15-24 years.
Syphilis – is a sexually transmitted infection that can cause serious health problems if it is not treated. Syphilis is divided into stages (primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary). There are different signs and symptoms associated with each stage.
HIV/AIDS – HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. It is the virus that can lead to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome or AIDS if not treated. Unlike some other viruses, the human body can’t get rid of HIV completely, even with treatment. So once you get HIV, you have it for life.
Note: links to the CDC website will be provided on the slides so students can review the information and further their knowledge base.
Learning activity
Divided amongst 9 folders; the students will be provided pictures to choose from whom they’d like to date. The pictures will be of popular figures placed upon the white board. Students will be grouped according to their choices after selecting one at a time when directed to do so. Inside will be one of the topics we defined.
Student(s) will be asked to review the definition and use Chromebooks to find additional facts to present to the class.
• Find a better definition.
• What did they find that’s interesting?
Evaluation of student learning
Students will be graded on three criteria.
1. Did they participate in the group activity? This can include individual work that is documented and provided if needed. 10pts of 30pts
2. Presentation will be based on the use information gathered and peer responses. 10 of 30pts - Extra credit is available if the presentation is produced on a google slide to be shared with the class.
3. Question and Answer review of the information before a quiz. (2) quized will each contain 5 question and one written response. 1 point per question and 5 pts for the written response meeting the criteria. Total of 10 pts of 30 pts
