Tomie dePaola Author Study

Teacher Page

app(1).jpg

This webquest is designed to help fourth grade students discover and reflect upon different aspects of Tomie dePaola's writing.  The purpose of this project is to assist students with building their research and critical thinking skills and provide them with exposure to a specific author.  In addition to this webquest, through read alouds and independent reading, the students will have analyzed Mr. dePaola's writing style, including but not limited to his use of figurative language, conflict development, and his rationale for writing some of his pieces.  The webquest augments classroom mini-lesson activities in both Reading and Writing Workshops.  The activities included in this study are differentiated by content.  While the content is similar, it is presented at different levels of complexity and requires different levels of application.  The overall goal is for the students to apply aspects of Mr. dePaola's writing craft within their own writing pieces.

This project aligns with NYS English Language Arts Standard 3: Students will read, write, listen, and speak for critical analysis and evaluation, and NYS English Language Arts Standard 1: Students will read, write, listen, and speak for information and understanding.
