As a teacher, it may be helpful during class discussion to familiarize students with some of the historic sites in and around Galivants Ferry, S.C. One can use either Google Earth, preferred, or also, Google Maps. Search for Galivants Ferry, S.C. and enter into Street Mode. This can help to serve as a virtual field trip through the area as students explore the buildings that contribute to the Galivants Ferry Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

As a teacher, familiarize yourself with the region before having your students do so. The link below will access the S.C. Dept. of Archives and History and will show information pertinent to buildings in the area that are historically significant. The teacher can have a variety of options for further exploring these topics if one chooses to do so. For example, a teacher may assign a group of students to develop a presentation that focuses on the buildings associated with tobacco farming such as the packhouse and/or tobacco barn. Students may develop presentations that include constructing a model of a barn, examining the rise of the culture that developed along with the growth of the tobacco industry, creating a time line of events associated with the industry, or creating an ad campaign highlighting the negative health effects of using tobacco products. There are many possibilities in exploring the various structures that contribute to the Galivants Ferry Historic District.
