Combined Curriculum Standards: Purpose/Audience: Students will establish and maintain a focused purpose to communicate with an authentic audience by - Narrowing the topic to create a specific purpose for writing - Establishing a controlling idea, theme or thesis about the topic - Choosing a perspective authentic to the writer - Analyzing and addressing the needs of the intended audience - Adhering to the characteristics of the form In transactive writing, students will communicate as an informed writer to provide new insight through informing, persuading or analyzing. EL-9-SLO-S-3 Students will use visual aids, media and tools of technology to support oral communication. GOAL: Since I will be teaching both Writing in a Project-Based Environment and Spanish at all levels for high school students, I’ve created a webquest that I could use for either, all centered around the topic of the crucial need for second language awareness and skill in our global economy and multicultural society. I plan for students to create a small group powerpoint, eventually generating individual brochures on the topic. Either assignment, however, involves persuasive techniques of communication. This assignment could be used with a communications or any foreign language class. TIME FRAME: Powerpoint Research, Creation and Presentation = two weeks
