This webquest has been designed to help students better understand how to read and understand the map of Arizona.

Standards

Strand 4: Geography, Concept 1: The World in Spatial Terms PO 2. Identify characteristics of maps and globes: a. compass rose b. symbols c. key/legend PO 3. Construct a map of a familiar place (e.g., classroom, bedroom, playground) that includes a compass rose, symbols, and key/legend. PO 4. Recognize characteristics of human and physical features: a. physical (i.e., ocean, continent, river, lake, mountains, islands) b. human (i.e., equator, North and South Poles) PO 5. Locate physical and human features using maps, illustrations, images, or globes: a. physical (i.e., continent, ocean, river, lake, mountains, islands) b. human (i.e., equator, North and South poles, country) PO 6. Locate Arizona on a map of the United States.

Materials needed:
Day 1- notebook, pencil, canyons and markers, and a ball.
Day 2- notebook, paper, pencil, markers and your imagination.
Day 3- computer, notebook and pencil.
Day 4- computer, notebook, pencil, Crayons and markers.
Day 5- notebook, computer, printer, glue, pencil, paper, crayons, poster board, rules and markers.
Assessment:
Day 2's Activity will be use as an assessment for the teacher to see if the students are understanding the basic of a map.
