WebQuest

The UP's & DOWN's (Linear Equations and Their Graphs)

Teacher Page

teach(8).bmp

Focus:
This Webquest helps students explore linear equations and their graphs.  The objective is to help students learn the different aspects of linear equations and to get hands on experience with their properties.  As they complete their Webquest, they will also be testing their knowledge.  Where there is doubt, they will have videos to assist them.

Objectives/Goals:
This activity is being used as a tool for review on Chapter 6.  As a State Regents Exam teacher of the second year of algebra, sometimes it is hard to reteach what another teacher has taught the year before.  This Webquest also serves as a great tool for the teacher to see how they have learned this material and how they communicate it to others.

  • Students will have an abundance of vocabulary words to learn
  • They will have the opportunity to use technology such as the SMARTBoard and TI-Smartview
  • Students will have the opportunity to give and take valuable information to and from other students
  • Students learn an entire chapter of mathematics in a fun way, one topic at a time and only have to do the work of research on one topic

Resources:
Prerequisite Skills: Comfort level with the Internet, TI-Calculator and SMARTBoard
Time Required: One Week for Prep (30 minutes a day to work in groups) and 4 days for all group presentations (30 minutes each).
Technology Needs/Materials Needed: Each group will need a computer to access the Internet, the Webquest, the online videos, the quizzes and the crossword puzzles.  They will also need TI-Graphing Calculators.
