New Mexico History

This webquest was used as an easier way to assess my students at the end of the year.  For the entire semester, we learned New Mexico history and shared our findings with our out of state pen pals.  I realized there was more information we had not covered yet, so I decided to create a webquest with new and old information.  This in turn allowed me to asses what they knew, while still teaching them new information.  Ultimately, my goal was for my students to realize that New Mexico is an amazing state and has many more areas that they can search on their own time.

This webquest takes about 30 minutes to complete.  Please adjust timing for students who have a slower reading rate, which could extend time to 45 minutes to an hour.  Use of a computer lab would be the ideal setting.  If you continue to assign the webquest as a group project, allow students to sit next to each other, with each student using their own computer.

After students have completed their webquest, they can turn in their work or each group can share their groups' findings in front of the class.  When students chose to share aloud for their peers, I give extra credit points (usually 5 points).  This can add 15-20 extra minutes to the lesson.

Standards

NM STANDARDS:

Content Standard I: Students are able to identify important people and events in order to analyze significant patterns, relationships, themes, ideas, beliefs, and turning points in New Mexico, United States, and world history in order to understand the complexity of the human experience.

Content Standard II: Students understand how physical, natural, and cultural processes influence where people live, the ways in which people live, and how societies interact with one another and their environments.

COMMON CORE STANDARDS:
After researching many websites, and the official common core website, there are no Social Studies CC Standards for any grades lower than 6th grade. If you find anything different, please e-mail me with the information.
