Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker has been a vital part of the evolution of contemporary dance for the past thirty years, her works have been seen around the world, and she has influenced many dancers and choreographers. When Beyonce's "Countdown" video premiered the question was raised as to whether she had replicated de Keersmaeker's choreography or not without permission. Upon questioning of the video Beyonce said that she was solely inspired by de Keermaeker's works but claims to not have stolen her choreography. The laws regarding Copyright infringement are vague causing the line between plagarism and inspiration to be blurred.
