Wild Animals Research

This
unit was created for implementation in a 3rd/4th grade multi-age classroom as a
language arts and technology unit. The
following lesson timeline may be used, in order for students to master the
skills needed to do this WebQuest:

Week
1 and 2: Students explore collections of non-fiction books about animals during
language arts instruction and then complete Step 1 of "Research
Steps" in this WebQuest during technology skills time. Students may
practice note-taking strategies with a partner during the Step 2 activity.

Weeks
3-4: Students select their animal to begin research in non-fiction books,
reference books, and online resources.

Week
5-6: Students use their notes to create a PowerPoint slideshow, using one slide
for each Essential Question with 3-4 bullets per slide. Transitions,
backgrounds, animation, and image uploading is also taught during this time.

Week
7: Presentation practice and presentations for an audience of parents.
