The date is July 20, 1885. It is a hot sweltering day in Regina, Saskatchewan. The courtroom is packed with officials and reporters. They are all here to witness the trial of century. You are the Judge and the Jury. You will follow the given pages and re-examine the evidence. You should have a paper and pen on hand as you will need to take notes as you go through the pages. I want you to collect pertinent information about Mr. Riel and the Northwest Rebellion. The task is to write a DIALECTIC ESSAY whether you think Mr. Riel was guilty or not guilty. Your ESSAY should also include aspects of the Northwest Rebellion. It should also be typed and properly edited.

Questions to keep in mind:

1)      Who was Louis David Riel?

2)      Why did he come out of exile?

3)      What led to the Northwest Rebellion?

4)      Were the Metis, Native People, and Settlers justified in their cause?

5)      Was the Canadian government right to ignore them?  

6)      Was Louis Riel crazy?

7)      Was the Canadian Government right to charge Louis Riel with treason?

8)       Were they right to execute him?
