The Great Iditarod Race | Let's Mush

After reading the story of Balto, the students will be put into groups of 3. There will be 1 mushers, 1 news reporter and 1 veterinarian assigned to each group. Each group will have 2 tasks that they need to work on and complete.

Mushers will create a model of a dog sled and create a google slide showing what they will need to pack on their trip. They will also display a map of the Iditarod that they have created depicting how many miles between each stop.

The news reporter will be responsible for showing a video of themselves interviewing the Musher and the Veterinarian. The reporter will be tasked with creating a poster to show a musher that they have chosen to research.

And Finally, the Veterinarian will be responsible for researching the best dog for the race. They will be creating a Google Slide to show the attributes of the Husky dog breed and what other things vets do during the Iditarod. Why are they so important? How many vets work the race? The vets will also be responsible for creating a Venn Diagram comparing the Husky breed to another dog breed of the student’s choosing.

You and your team will work together to learn all about the Great Alaska Iditarod. You and your team will create a Google Slide presentation depicting the Great Race from different perspectives. You will present your findings to the class as a team using your research findings.
