CHICKEN RICE

  • Types of Chicken Rice:
    - Hainanese Chicken Rice (adapted from early Chinese immigrants)
    - Chicken Rice with roasted chicken
    - Chicken Rice with steamed chicken
    - Malay Chicken Rice


  • Ingredients:
    - Chicken stocks for the rice
    - Roast, steam or fried chicken 
    - cucumber
    - tomatoes
    - salad
    - chilli sauce

Chicken Rice is rice served with chicken, cucumber, tomato, clear soup and chilli sauce. Most stalls serve extras such as braised dark soy hard boiled egg, chicken liver, braised dark soy firm tofu (Tau-kwa) and kai-lan with oyster sauce as side dishes.

Chicken Rice can be bought from hawker centres, cafes, restaurants such as Swensens, Old Town White Coffee, The Chicken Rice Shop and even in hotels.

You can even find chicken rice in our neighbouring countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.

Chicken rice is cooked by adding chicken stock to the rice. The chicken is prepared by frying, roasted or steaming it.



FISHBALL NOODLES

  • Types of Fishball Noodles

          - Mee Pok,
          - Mee Kia,
          - Yellow Noodles,
          - Mee Tai Mak,
          - Kuay Teow
          - Bee Hoon
          in either Dry or Soup version

  • Ingredients
    - Noodles
    - Fishballs
    - Fish cakes
    - Clear Soup
    - Chilli Sauce
    - Vegetables
    - Spring Onions


The noodles may be  in a bowl of mee pok with two fishballs, one meatball and one vegetable ball, topped with minced meat and sliced stewed mushrooms. Some stalls serve stewed herbal chicken feet to go with the noodles as side dish.


Fishball Noodles can be bought from hawker centres, cafes and restaurants such as Old Town White Coffee.

You can even find fishball noodles
 in our neighbouring countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.




ROTI PRATA

        - plain flour

        - warm water

        - ghee or butter

        - a pinch of salt


A soft and yet crisp flatbread, roti prata (or paratha) is often eaten together with mutton or dhal curry.

There are two common types of roti prata sold in Singapore – plain prata and prata with egg.

However, these days, many eateries offer interesting and innovative versions by adding cheese, mushrooms, bananas, sugar, jam, chocolate and ice cream to the dish.


Roti prata serves as a staple food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Although, it is most often eaten as a breakfast item.

It is sold mostly by Indian Muslim stallholders at coffee shops and hawker centres.
