Health Awareness: Prostate Cancer

Learning Outcomes:

1. Student will learn how to list the sign and symptoms of Prostate Cancer.
2. Students will learn how to analyze public health information and be able to articulate cultural and socioeconomic differences of sub-populations with the greatest prevelance and incidence of prostate cancer.
3. Student will learn how to prioritize which sub-populations should receive the greatest public health outreach attention for prostate cancer awareness.
4. Student will learn how to effectively use technology to design  a public health education presentation using power point, face book, or you tube.
5. Students will share their presentations with community �based organizations.

 Participants of this Web Quest will work both individually and in a group to create a prostate cancer awareness campaign.  Follow the link contains  assistance to help you achieve your goals via three different forms of technology.

Goal

1) Each group will choose two of the following four mediums to create a public awareness campaign about prostate cancer:

a) power point presentation

b) face book page

c) you tube video

d) a pamphlet

Objectives

1) Each individual will take a pre-test and a post-test about to determine what each participant's level of awareness about prostate cancer.
2) Each individual will show an increase in knowledge of prostate cancer signs and symptoms and the importance of early detection by the completion of the project.
3) Each group will determine what population(s) are at the greatest risk (vulnerable) of prostate cancer morbidity and mortality.
4) Each group will learn how to utilize  different tools of communication media.
5) Each group will choose a community organization or business that they have identified that serves the identified vulnerable population and write a letter of proposal to convince them as to why they should consider using their project as a tool to promote awareness of prostate cancer.
 
Each participant will maintain a weekly  journal that documents his or her  experience in creating this campaign and answer the following questions

1)What communities are most at risk for prostate cancer?
2)Which mediums and why the group chose to use those specific mediums to outreach to those  particular communities and stakeholders?
3)Provide insight as to if and how his or her personal perspective has changed about the communities affected by this disease?
4) Recommendations of what can be done by individuals and stakeholders to reduce the prevalence of  prostate cancer incidence  of deaths associated with the disease?
5) Document any personal experience with friend or family that has been diagnosed with cancer?
