Germanic Languages and

Task

I expect you to read/watch the links and understand the overall idea of language families, Germanic languages, and similarities and differences between English and the Romance languages, and English and the Germanic languages.

After learning about this, I would like you to read the short and easy texts in German and French and mark the words that you think look or sound similar to English and try to guess what they mean. If you want, you can try to translate the whole texts into English, this is optional.

After examining the texts, you are expected to write your own text in "Anglish", which you will have learned about after you have watched the videos. Your text can be about how your day went, your future plans, your favourite book, etc. You are free to choose the topic yourselves. What I care about is the amount of Germanic words that you use in your essays. Try to make English as Germanic as possible. An example would be using "want" instead of "desire".

Feel free to use the dictionary links to look up the origins of the words that you plan to use in your essays.

Good luck!
