Conspiracy Theory, Real Or Not?

Task

20151017125214aveSy.jpg

Your task is to investigate the concept of conspiracy theory in the context of one of the following areas: economics, education, government, health, history, politics, religion, science, or peace & war.  You may focus on conspiracies which exist in the U.S.A.  But,  if your research leads you to consider its existence elsewhere, you should follow that path.  Your goal is to determine whether or not you find sufficient evidence to warrant a rethinking of the way in which people, in general, view conspiracy theories.  Are these suspected occurrences actually part of an organized covert activity or merely the misapprehensions of paranoid minds?

  • You will organize as groups of four students and structure your research using books, interviews, Internet websites, and videos.
  • Your group will make a class presentation using a panel discussion format, a newscast, or some other original format you've created.
  • You will produce a power point to aid the viewer in following the steps of your presentation
  • Each group will submit a written report, three to five pages in length, detailing all aspects of their procedures.  Papers are due on the day your group makes its presentation.
  • Your task will require consensus building to the degree that you are considering different viewpoints and opinions.
  • You may offer both a historical perspective and current events.  These should fit together to give it a 'real world' flavor.
  • You will conduct research to produce evidence which will support your position.  Thus, your presentation will seek to persuade your listeners.
  • Your group's presentation should be approximately twenty minutes in length.
  • The order of presentations will be by random drawing.
