Your first task is  to work with a partner to explore and research a specific influence on Westward Expansion: The Pony Express, Gold Rush, The Homestead Act, The Indian Removal Act (The Trail of Tears), The Mormon Trail, Mexican-American War, The Transcontinental Railroad, and the Louisiana Purchase.    You will complete the 5 W's graphic organizer to help you make the final project poster on your specific influence.  You will then present the poster to teach the class about your topic.

Your second task will be to pretend to be a pioneer that is headed to West in search of gold and describe what it was like for the pioneers.  You will need to research the gold rush, experiences of pioneers including: diseases, natural disasters that occurred along their journey, landforms and bodies of water crossed along the way.  You will  journal your experiences on the way to California, and record what happens while prospecting for gold, such as: changes in the environment due to mining, tools used for mining and how you got the tools, law and order between the pioneers and native americans.  You will use the journaling guide, map, and other resources given, to produce an informative presentation of your experience of being a pioneer.  Your presentation can be a keynote, paper slide, play, or rap.  You will be expected to have a final presentation and journal.
