Balance: Literature and Life
Process
Please take the following steps in order to achieve your journey of balance...
Step One:
- Read "Like the Sun" by R.K. Narayan: Located in your textbook or online at http://munna-smileplease.blogspot.com/2008/02/like-sunby-rk-narayan.html.
- In a Word Document (the same document that you used to answer the Marco and Paulo video question), answer the following questions in paragraph format:
a. Why is telling the truth much more difficult than telling white lies?
b. What does Sekhar realize at the end of the story about the price of truth?
c. Does Sekhar believe that the price of truth is woth it? Why or why not? How do you know?
d. Why is truth necessary before achieving balance? - Submit your Word Document to me.
Step Two:
- Visit www.zenhabits.net (An award-winning blog)
- Read the article entitled "The One Tool You Need to Lead a Balanced Life" by Haider Al-Mosawi located at http://zenhabits.net/the-one-tool-you-need-to-lead-a-balanced-life/.
- In a Word Document (the same document that you used to answer the Marco and Paulo video question and the "Like the Sun" responses), complete the three tasks listed at the end of the article.
a. Be sure to address all seven life areas.
b. Lists and bullets are acceptable for this activity. - Search www.zenhabits.net for two more articles that discuss the topic of balance.
- In a Word Document (the same document that you used to answer the Marco and Paulo video question and the "Like the Sun" responses) , summarize and analyze these articles by:
a. Explain how they enhance your understanding of achieving balance after reading "The One Tool You Need to Lead a Balanced Life."
b. Explain how you can realistically apply the advice given in these two articles in your everyday life. - Submit your Word Document to me.
- If you cannot access zenhabits.net at school, then pleause utilize the "Resources" below. Otherwise, you need to wait until you get home to complete this portion of the assignment.
Step Three:
- In a Word Document, compose a reflective paragraph that discusses the topic of how you have not successfully balanced one of the seven life areas. These include:
(1) Spiritual
(2) Intellectual
(3) Psychological
(4) Social
(5) Professional
(6) Recreational
(7) Physical - Analyze why you feel that you have not been able to balance this one life area. Perhaps another life area was more important to you this year. Perhaps you were struggling with understanding this life area. Perhaps you simply have never thought about this life area being important.
- After describing why you could not balance this life area, propose a realistic solution that describes how you can create balance.
- This paragraph should be at least ten sentences long.
- As always, appropriate language, grammar, and mechanics will be graded.
- Submit your Word Document to me.
- Create a vision board on a half piece of standard size posterboard or a Word document.

b. Your vision board needs to address the seven life areas mentioned in Steps 2 and 3.
c. On the back of your board, explain what each cut-out symbolizes to you. - Submit the board to me. Since this is personal, I will be the only one grading it. You do not have to share this with the class.
