Volume Of Geometric Shapes

Process

  1. Students will select two geometric shapes at random by selecting random numbers between 1 and 20. The numbers would already be printed on the shapes by the teacher prior to the selecting process.
  2. Students will then in their groups (using a ruler) measure the different dimensions of the shapes, i.e. length, height, width, diameter, radius etc.
  3. Students will then be required to identify and apply the appropriate formula required to calculate the volume of said shapes.

There is a video here that explains how the formulas are derived, as well as how to apply them.
