Here is what is needed in the brochure.  Remember, the information needs to be accurate and you need to be able to support your information when I might question it.  You will also present the brochure to other students in the classroom.

  1. Cover page (page 1):  This should include the complete name of the element, symbol of element, and an atomic picture/diagram of the element  Include a photo of what your element looks like in its pure form.  Could you safely touch it?
  2.  Introduction page (page 2):  Include the basic information about the element such as what family/group it is located in, what does a family/group mean, what period is your element in and what does a period mean.
  3. Show your element's electron configuration.
  4. Explain what the different  s, d, p, and f orbitals mean.
  5. What are your elements physical properties such as color, melting point, atomic form, atomic mass, density and atomic number.
  6. Explain what each of these physical properties mean?
  7. Page 3:  Explain the octet rule.
  8. Explain how the electron orbitals determine how your element bonds with another element using the octet rule.
  9. Show how the stability of your element is relative to another element in its family/group.
  10. Explain how the periodic table allows you to make this prediction?
  11. Give three examples of how your element is used in our everyday lives.  Include a photo, video or diagram of at least one item.
  12. Page 4:  Give a 2-3 paragraph history of the periodic table including two key people in its development.
  13. Explain why the periodic table is so important for chemistry.  What can it be used for?  (1-2 paragraphs).
  14. Page 5:  Where are the metals, nonmetals, halogens and noble gases located on the periodic table?
  15. What do these different categories mean?
  16. Which element is the entire periodic table based upon?  Explain how it is based on this element?
  17. Page 6 (Conclusion):  Summarize your element in two paragraphs.
