OK Master Brains!!

I know you have made a very long list of properties. Next, we are going to play a game!! The person who is unassigned will be the score taker. Students will be advised that one member from group A will stand and share a response. If group B has that particular property then both groups will be awarded one point. However, if group B does not have that particular property then Group A will be awarded 10 points. Five (5) properties from each work will be taking. Please access the link provided to match the properties you wrote down. Make note of any new property that you came across for future reference.

You will then need to watch the video attached, that will be a guide for you to correctly model the 'Squared Tiles'. Each group will create a rectangle from the square tiles and draw a sketch of that rectangle in their books- making note of the dimensions. A volunteer from each group will be asked to draw, on the board, the model they created- clearly showing the squared tiles and the dimensions. We will only be focussing on group A's response. Please discuss the answers to the following questions as a class:

What is the area of the rectangle based on the number of squares?

Is there an easier way that we can calculate the area of rectangle formed if we are not given squared tiles?

The Formula for calculating Area of a rectangle is Length x Width. Go ahead and discuss among your groups how this is linked to the 'squared tiles' method.
