The Life of A Butterfly

Engage:

   1. First you will discuss with the students their prior knowledge about a butterfly as a class discussion.
   2. Next you will read a short read-aloud as a class on butterflies and their life cycles.
   3. Once you�ve read the selection, you will discuss the information that was provided and then move on to the next activity.

 

Explore:

1.   The activity is for students to take the body parts of the a butterfly and label them as the read-aloud explained.

2.   Or using the internet the students will look up the anatomy of a butterfly and recreate butterfly detailing the different parts and drawing what they see.

3.   Also could they could look up webquest based on the anatomy or life cycle of the butterfly to gain more insight and find  more information.

Explain:

1.   Students should be able to explain and describe each part of the butterfly anatomy.

2.   Students should be able to explain to what order their butterfly belongs too.

3.   Students should be able to explain to explain about their butterfly and its life cycle, as well as give details the life of a butterfly.

Elaborate:

1.   Using the internet you will do research about a specific butterfly and compare and contrast the difference between your butterfly and the butterfly in the read aloud reading,

2.   Writing an essay about your butterfly you will do what the read aloud did and give all important information about the butterfly.(ex: how fast they fly, or where they live, what they eat, and to what order they belong?)

3.   Once  done with the essay you will recreate your butterfly in a drawing and label its parts to be shared with the class.

Evaluate:

1.   Once you�ve completed the class room or group discussion, a short answer quiz will be given to access your knowledge and comprehension.

2.   Once finished you�ve finished the short answer quiz, you will complete the anatomy of a butterfly drawing from the research you�ve  gathered on the internet or use the read aloud  handout and based upon the reading you will complete your anatomy drawing.

3.    Once all this is complete you will color, cut and glue the different stages of the butterfly cycle in order from egg, to caterpillar, to pupa, to butterfly.
