Process

1. Glue your Character FEELINGS worksheet that we completed into your journal. Make sure you can read all of your notes. Then glue your CINDERELLA activity sheet in your journal as well. It is important to make sure that you do NOT use too much glue, or you will not be able to fill in the squares as required.

2. Get in your group assigned to you. Carefully go through the pictures in the story given to you. Write down all of the main colors used in the artwork. Take notes on the way the text (words) are displayed on the page. Are they centered, in the bottom, on the top, to the right, to the left? Do they have their own box or border around them? Are they part of the picture itself? Does the artwork cover the ENTIRE page or is there whitespace or black space? Are there borders, repeating patterns, shapes, colors, flowers, etc.? Every detail about the pages themselves, they way they look needs to be noted in your journals. What do the characters look like? Wide eyes? Small eyes? Large noses? Small noses? The size of their heads, feet, clothing styles, hair styles, color, shape, etc. These descriptions tell you what that country considers to be beautiful in their culture.  This will help you when you complete the research on the country itself.

3. Read the story all the ways through. Complete the "Cinderella Activity" sheet given to each of you. You MUST fill in EVERY square. This is your rough draft. Your final draft will be added to a Google doc to your webpage. Make sure you write your name, title of the story, and what country it is from at the TOP of your page.

4. Create a plot line of the story: Must include -Exposition (settings, characters, mood, theme, point of view), Rising action: 2 details that are part of the rising action, Conflict (problem), Climax (most excitement), falling action (one detail supporting), Resolution (the end).

You may draw the plot mountain as shown below, or you can choose to write a short paragraph description of each.

Now compare the notes you took from your story to the Disney versions that you were introduced to in the beginning of the unit.

5. Note 3 similarities: plot, characters, setting, magic elements, etc.

6. Note 3 differences: plot, characters, setting, magic elements, etc.

7. Create a chart in your journal comparing the two stories. There should be a column for differences and a column for similarities.

8. Identify the climate, religion, and population of your country that your story is located.

9. Locate 3 other picture books or children's stories from that same country. Compare the artwork in those stories to the artwork in your story. Write a short description of how the books were similar or different in appearance. Do they share the same symbols? Colors? Plants? Location of the text? Design?

10. Locate 2 facts that you did not know prior to this project about your country. Make them interesting! Write them down in your journal.

11. Research what recipe(s) that you might want to make and bring to the class.

12. Rejoice, all of the hard part is over!! Next is just taking the information you have researched and creating a website. We will do this together!!
