Early Days of California

Part 1: Read the textbook in groups and then discuss each section. Read as a class the historical fiction book "Island of the Blue Dolphins" by Scott O'Dell to get an idea of what life was like for a California Native girl. Look at these links in groups and discuss your findings.


Part 2: You will choose a mission and a project to do. The projects to choose from are a PowerPoint, Poster, or a Replica of a Mission. You may visit a Mission and take pictures of your trip to include in your presentation. Information that is to be included in your presentation: The name of your Mission, when it was built, who built it, the daily lives of the people that lived there, what type of agriculture and/or livestock, what roles did the people have, where did the people come from, what was the economics of your Mission, what was the region surrounding your Mission.

Part 3: Your presentation must be at least 3 minutes long. You must also write an essay containing your information along with your resources that you used. Be prepared to answer questions from your fellow students.
