The Horrors of Eating Disorders

Process

ed.medical_symbol(2).jpg

Below are the steps that will help you create your final project, a Public Service Announcement (PSA) or a PowerPoint presentation (PPT).  Your team will need to decide, by majority vote, which type of final project you will complete.

**Note**
All assignment/project due dates will be decided by your teacher.  See your teacher for your specific project timeline.

1.  Who am I?

First you will be assigned to a team of 5 students.  Each student will have a role to play.  The roles are listed below.

Webster's Master -
Your role is to research the definition of the disorder and the history that goes along with it.  You may also need to help other roles with new vocabulary with which they are unfamiliar.

Trigger Jigger-
Your role is to find out possible triggers to your group's given eating disorder.  Research how one might begin to have this eating disorder, possible causes.

Nurse Nancy-
Your role is to research how your team's given eating disorder affects the body.  Give specific symptoms and other relevant information.  Find at least two effects on the body that are specific to your team's given eating disorder.  (You may also want to include information on how the family and friends of a victim are affected.)

Dr. Phil-
Your role is to find ways to help.  Research help groups, clinics, etc. that offer support for victims of eating disorders.  Consider including a small section of how loved ones can help and cope, as well.

Savvy Tech-
Your role is to oversee the final project and actually produce whichever presentation your team decides to do.  If your team does a PSA, you will be responsible for script, edits, etc.  If your team does a PPT, you will be responsible for creation of the slides, grammar, spelling, and punctuation throughout the presentation, and design of the overall project.

2.  Research

See the Resources section at the bottom of this page for information and research help.

3.  Game Plan

Once you have researched your topic and gathered the information for which you are responsible, you must complete the Game Plan attached at the bottom of this page.  Each section of the Game Plan is specific to a role, these sections should be filled out individually, but you must work as a team to make your Game Plan work cohesively.  (It may be helpful to look over the Game Plan worksheet before you start your research.)  Each team is required to turn in one Game Plan and be approved by the teacher before the creation of their project.

4. Final Project

Each role is responsible for contributing their information/knowledge to the final project.  Evaluations of the final projects will be done individually and as a team.  The rubric found on the Evaluation page of this WebQuest will give you more insight into the aspects for which you are being graded.

5.  Team Grade

Teamwork is an important part of this project.  I have attached a Team Grade document at the bottom of this page that every member must fill out and turn in on the date of their presentation.  This document will give your teacher insight into your work as a team member and how you view the work of your other team members.

6.  Paper

Each team member is responsible for writing a two-page paper.  The first page should include a summary of one eating disorder that was not their team's given eating disorder.  (Information for this part of the paper can be based on research done on your own and/or information gathered from fellow classmates' PSAs and PPTs.)  The second page should be a reflection on eating disorders in general and a plan of action to protect you from falling victim to such horrors.  These papers will be graded on an individual basis.  Grades will be determined by the Paper Rubric attached to the bottom of this page.

Resources

The websites listed below will help you find information and research your topic.  I have included a template to a storyboard, for those teams that choose to do a PSA.  All teams will have ample time in the computer lab for research and in-class time with access to cameras and computers for the creation of the final projects.
